When batting nerves take over
A batter can look confident in the nets but feel completely different when facing a bowler in a match. Worry about getting out, making a poor shot, letting the team down or being watched can make the body tense and the mind race.
This can lead to:
Fear of getting out early
Overthinking technique while batting
Feeling tense, shaky or frozen before facing the first ball
Fear of fast bowling, short balls or being hit
Worry about letting down teammates, coaches or parents
Playing too cautiously through fear of making a mistake
Rushing shots or making poor decisions under pressure
Loss of confidence after a low score or dismissal
Anxiety before trials, finals or representative matches
Performing well in practice but struggling in games
Replaying previous dismissals or mistakes
Support for cricket batting confidence
Clive has a particular interest in anxiety, panic attacks, overthinking and confidence. Sessions are tailored to the player’s experience, goals and level of competition.
Hypnotherapy may support the mental side of batting by helping a player work on:
Settling nerves before and during an innings
Reducing negative self-talk
Staying focused on the next ball
Trusting skills already developed through training
Recovering after a poor shot, dropped chance or low score
Feeling more confident against faster or more challenging bowling
Managing pressure in close games and important innings
Returning to cricket after a setback or loss of confidence
The aim is not to promise runs, selections or match results. It is to help the player develop a calmer, more focused response when pressure appears.
Hypnotherapy complements coaching and practice
Batting confidence is built through coaching, skill development, practice and game experience. Hypnotherapy may complement these supports by helping with the anxiety and overthinking that can interfere with performance. It is not a replacement for technical coaching, protective equipment, injury management or professional sporting advice.
A calm, private approach
Sessions are private, respectful and non-judgmental. For players under 18, a parent or guardian is involved in arranging the appointment, while the young player is encouraged to help set the goals they want to work towards.
Hypnotherapy does not involve touch, medication or physical procedures. You remain aware and in control throughout the session.

Frequently asked questions
Can hypnotherapy help with cricket batting anxiety?
Hypnotherapy may help players work on confidence, pressure, overthinking and the physical anxiety response connected with batting. Sessions are tailored to the individual player. Results vary and cannot be guaranteed.
I bat well in the nets but struggle in matches. Can this help?
Many players feel relaxed during practice but tense when the score matters or people are watching. The session can focus on the thoughts and pressure that show up in competitive situations.
Can this help after a poor score or difficult dismissal?
A low score or dismissal can affect confidence, especially when it is replayed repeatedly in the mind. Hypnotherapy may help a player work on unhelpful self-talk and return attention to the next training session, innings or opportunity.
Can hypnotherapy help with fear of fast bowling?
Fear of fast bowling or being hit can affect confidence at the crease. Hypnotherapy may help a player work on anxiety connected with this fear, alongside appropriate coaching, protective equipment and safe training.
Can hypnotherapy guarantee I will score more runs?
No. Sporting results cannot be guaranteed. Hypnotherapy may support the mental side of performance, including confidence, focus and handling nerves.
Is this suitable for junior and teenage cricketers?
Yes. Sessions can be adapted for children and teenagers in an age-appropriate way. A parent or legal guardian is involved in arranging appointments for players under 18.
Will I be asleep or out of control?
No. Hypnosis is not sleep. You remain aware, can hear what is being said and stay in control throughout the session.
How many sessions will I need?
This depends on your goals, the level of anxiety and your individual response to the work. No specific number of sessions or outcome can be guaranteed.
Are online appointments available?
Online appointments may be available in suitable circumstances. Please enquire to discuss whether an online appointment is appropriate for you or your child.
Are reviews and video testimonials available?
Yes. Google reviews and video testimonials from real clients are available to view. Every player and situation is different, so testimonials are not a guarantee of a particular result.
