Brave & Confident Hypnosis for Kids | Award Winning Anxiety Hypnotherapy Brisbane | Clive Westwood

When a child is anxious, confidence can feel far away. They may want to join in but freeze, worry about making mistakes, avoid new situations, struggle at drop-off or feel upset long before something challenging happens.

Brave and Confident Hypnotherapy for Kids offers gentle, one-to-one support for children who need help developing calmer coping skills and greater self-belief.

Helping children build confidence at a safe pace

Every child has different worries and strengths. Some feel nervous about school, teachers, friendships, sleepovers, sport, speaking in front of others, being away from a parent or trying unfamiliar activities. Others may seem confident in one area but become highly anxious in another.

Children do not need to be pushed to become “fearless.” A more helpful goal is to help them feel understood, safe and able to manage one small step at a time.

Hypnotherapy may use relaxation, guided imagery, simple breathing techniques, stories and confidence-building suggestions suited to the child’s age and needs. It is a collaborative process, not mind control, and no child is made to do anything against their will.

What a children’s hypnotherapy session may support

A tailored session can explore the child’s own experience of worry and help them practise useful responses in a calm setting. Areas of support may include:

  • school anxiety and fear of teachers

  • separation worries and difficult drop-offs

  • shyness, social confidence and friendships

  • fear of making mistakes or getting in trouble

  • bedtime worries, nightmares, fear of the dark or sleeping alone

  • sport, performance or school-presentation nerves

  • everyday overthinking, panic-like feelings or low confidence

The focus is on helping the child feel more capable in real life, while respecting their pace and comfort.

Parent and carer involvement matters

Parents and carers are an important part of a child’s support. You can help by listening without judgement, validating the feeling and encouraging manageable steps instead of demanding instant change.

Clive Westwood discusses the child’s needs, goals and circumstances with the parent or carer to decide whether hypnotherapy is appropriate. Younger children need adult support before, during and after any session or recording.

A child should never be encouraged to ignore behaviour that feels unsafe, threatening or inappropriate. If they disclose bullying, mistreatment, frightening behaviour or anything concerning, listen carefully and take action through the appropriate school, childcare, healthcare or safeguarding channels. Contact emergency services if there is immediate danger.

When anxiety needs additional care

Seek advice from a GP, child psychologist, paediatric professional, school counsellor or another qualified health professional if anxiety is severe, ongoing, worsening or affecting school attendance, sleep, eating, family life, friendships or play.

Hypnotherapy is complementary support and does not replace medical, psychological, psychiatric or safeguarding care.

Frequently asked questions

Can hypnotherapy make my child brave and confident?

No outcome can be guaranteed. Hypnotherapy may help some children practise calmness, confidence and helpful coping strategies. Progress is individual and is usually built through safe, supported experiences over time.

Is hypnotherapy suitable for every child?

A parent or carer should decide whether it is appropriate. Sessions are tailored to the child’s age, needs and circumstances, and another professional may be the better first option in some situations.

Can children use hypnosis recordings at home?

Only with a parent or carer’s approval. Children should listen while safely resting at home, never while walking, cycling, swimming, travelling near traffic or during class.

Can I book a Brisbane appointment for my child?

Yes. Discussing the child’s needs before booking can help determine whether this type of support is suitable.

Individual results vary. Hypnotherapy is complementary support and is not a replacement for safeguarding, medical, psychological, psychiatric or emergency care.
