Destroy Fear Hypnosis | Award Winning Anxiety Hypnotherapy Brisbane | Clive Westwood
Destroy fear hypnosis: reduce fear’s hold on you
Fear can feel like it controls your choices. It may stop you from speaking up, travelling, driving, meeting people, applying for something important, taking part in a sport, going to an appointment or trying a new experience.
The aim is not to destroy every feeling of fear. Fear can be useful when there is a genuine danger. The goal is to reduce the power of unnecessary fear, anxious predictions and avoidance so you can respond more calmly and make safer, clearer choices.
This guided hypnosis resource may offer complementary support for people who want to feel steadier, more capable and less ruled by anxiety.
When fear becomes limiting
Fear often becomes more powerful when you avoid a situation repeatedly. Avoidance can bring short-term relief, but it may teach your mind that the situation was too dangerous to handle.
You may notice:
imagining the worst before something happens
feeling panic sensations and fearing them
avoiding places, people or activities
repeatedly seeking reassurance
over-preparing because you fear mistakes
feeling tense even when you are safe
putting off an important action because fear feels overwhelming
These reactions can be exhausting. They do not mean you are weak. They are patterns that may respond to patient, appropriate support.
What hypnosis may help you practise
Hypnosis is a relaxed, focused state that can be used to practise helpful mental habits. It is not mind control, and you remain able to think, respond and choose throughout the experience.
This guided session may help you practise:
slowing your breathing and settling physical tension
noticing fearful thoughts without treating them as facts
separating a real risk from an anxious prediction
allowing a nervous sensation to pass without escalating it
remembering past moments of strength
imagining one safe, manageable step
responding to yourself with more patience and less self-criticism
No outcome can be guaranteed. Hypnosis cannot remove every fear, override a safety warning or make decisions for you.
Courage is built through safe action
The most useful next step is usually small. If social confidence is difficult, it might be saying hello. If public speaking feels overwhelming, it might be practising an opening sentence. If a task has been delayed, it might be giving it ten minutes of attention.
Choose a step that is challenging but safe. Repetition allows your mind to learn that discomfort is not always danger.
Do not push through a situation that is unsafe, threatening, abusive or inappropriate. In those circumstances, courage may mean leaving, setting a boundary or asking for help.
Listening safely
Listen only while resting safely in a quiet place. You can pause at any time, open your eyes, move around and return attention to your surroundings.
Never listen while driving, cycling, operating machinery, walking near traffic, swimming or doing anything requiring your full attention.

Frequently asked questions
Can hypnosis destroy fear completely?
No. No outcome can be guaranteed. Hypnosis may help some people practise a calmer response to fear, but it should not remove awareness of genuine danger.
Can hypnosis help with a phobia?
It may be used as complementary support for some fears and phobias. Seek professional assessment if fear is severe, persistent or significantly affects daily life.
Should I force myself to face a fear?
No. Do not force yourself through something unsafe or overwhelming. Choose safe, gradual steps and seek qualified help where needed.
Can I listen before a difficult event?
You may listen while resting safely before an event if it suits your routine. Allow time to become fully alert before driving or doing anything requiring full attention.
Individual results vary. Hypnotherapy is complementary support and is not a replacement for medical, psychological, psychiatric, safeguarding or emergency care.
