Hypnotherapy Brisbane | Feel Confident Hypnosis for kids
Feel-confident hypnosis for kids
Children can feel confident in one situation and nervous in another. A child may be chatty at home but quiet at school, happy practising sport but worried about competition, or interested in new activities but scared to join in.
Feeling nervous does not mean a child is weak or incapable. Confidence grows when children feel safe, understood and supported to try small things in their own time.
This gentle hypnosis resource may offer complementary support for children who want to practise calmness, courage and positive self-talk.
What confidence looks like for children
Confidence is not about being the loudest child in the room. It can be raising a hand, asking for help, saying hello, trying a new activity, speaking to an adult, taking part in sport or returning to something after making a mistake.
Children may show low confidence by:
avoiding activities they want to try
saying “I can’t” before beginning
worrying about mistakes or being laughed at
needing frequent reassurance
becoming upset before school, sport or social events
comparing themselves with other children
giving up quickly when something feels hard
With patient encouragement, children can learn that they can feel worried and still take one safe, manageable step.
A gentle approach to children’s hypnosis
Child-friendly hypnosis uses relaxation, imagination, stories and simple coping ideas. It is not mind control, and it cannot make a child do anything against their will.
A guided session may help a child practise:
taking slow breaths when they feel tense
imagining a favourite safe place
remembering a time they handled something well
using kind, encouraging words toward themselves
picturing one small next step
noticing effort and courage, not just perfect results
Sessions are tailored to the child’s age, goals, experiences and pace. A parent or carer is involved in deciding whether support is suitable.
Confidence at school, home and activities
A child may want support with schoolwork, friendships, sport, music, presentations, sleepovers, new activities or speaking to adults. It can help to focus on one area at a time.
For example, confidence around school might begin with packing a bag together, walking to the gate, greeting one familiar person or asking a teacher a question. A child who worries about sport may begin by attending training, practising one skill or focusing on effort rather than winning.
Praise the process: “You felt nervous and you had a try.” This helps children see courage as something they can practise.
Children should never be pushed to ignore something that feels unsafe, threatening, intimidating or inappropriate. If your child reports bullying, mistreatment, frightening behaviour or another concern, listen carefully and seek help from the school, childcare provider, GP or relevant safeguarding authority.
When to seek further support
Speak with a GP, child psychologist, paediatric professional, school counsellor or another qualified health professional if anxiety, fear or low confidence is severe, persistent, worsening or affecting sleep, eating, school attendance, friendships, play or family life.
Hypnotherapy is complementary support. It does not replace medical, psychological, psychiatric or safeguarding care. If there is immediate danger, contact emergency services.

Frequently asked questions
Can hypnosis make my child confident?
No outcome can be guaranteed. Hypnosis may help some children practise calmness and positive self-talk, while confidence grows through safe, supported experience.
Is confidence hypnosis suitable for every child?
Every child is different. A parent or carer should decide whether it is suitable, and professional assessment may be needed for significant anxiety or distress.
Will my child be forced to face a fear?
No. A supportive approach respects the child’s pace. Children should never be pressured to face something unsafe or overwhelming.
Can my child listen to a recording at home?
Yes, with parent or carer approval, while resting safely at home or another quiet place. Never while walking, cycling, swimming, travelling near traffic or during class.
Individual results vary. Hypnotherapy is complementary support and is not a replacement for medical, psychological, psychiatric, safeguarding or emergency care.
