Overcome Fear Hypnosis for Kids Award Winning Anxiety Hypnotherapy Brisbane
Overcome fear hypnosis for kids
Children can have fears that feel very big to them. They may worry about school, teachers, sleep, the dark, being away from a parent, making friends, sport, speaking in class or trying something unfamiliar.
Fear is not a sign that a child is weak. It is a feeling that can be understood, supported and managed through safe, gradual steps.
This child-friendly hypnosis resource may offer complementary support for calmness, courage and confidence. It is not about forcing a child to “get over” a fear or pushing them into something before they are ready.
Helping children understand fear
Young children may not always have the words to explain anxiety. Instead, they may avoid an activity, become tearful or irritable, complain of a tummy ache, seek reassurance, have trouble settling or say “I can’t.”
It can help to respond calmly: “I can see this feels scary. We can work out one small step together.”
A child learns confidence when they are allowed to feel nervous, supported by a safe adult and encouraged to try something manageable.
What child-friendly hypnosis may help with
Child-friendly hypnosis uses simple relaxation, imagination, stories and positive coping ideas. It is not mind control, and a child cannot be made to do anything against their will.
A guided session may help a child practise:
breathing slowly when their body feels tense
imagining a safe and comfortable place
relaxing shoulders, hands and facial muscles
remembering a time they managed something difficult
using kind, encouraging words
picturing one small next step
The approach is tailored to the child’s age, goals, interests and pace. A parent or carer is involved in deciding whether support is suitable.
Taking small, safe steps
The safest way to approach a fear is usually gradually. For a child worried about school, a first step might be preparing their bag, visiting the gate, greeting a familiar person or staying for one planned activity.
For a child worried about sleep, it may be creating a predictable bedtime routine, using a comfort item where appropriate or practising slow breathing with a parent nearby.
Praise courage and effort, not only outcomes. “You felt nervous and you had a go” helps your child notice their own progress.
Children should never be pushed to ignore something that feels unsafe, threatening, intimidating or inappropriate. If your child reports bullying, mistreatment, frightening behaviour or another concern, listen carefully and seek help from the school, childcare provider, GP or relevant safeguarding authority.
When to seek professional support
Speak with a GP, child psychologist, paediatric professional, school counsellor or another qualified health professional if fear, anxiety or distress is severe, persistent, worsening or affecting sleep, eating, school attendance, friendships, play or family life.
Hypnotherapy is complementary support. It does not replace medical, psychological, psychiatric or safeguarding care. If there is immediate danger, contact emergency services.

Frequently asked questions
Can hypnosis help my child overcome a fear?
No outcome can be guaranteed. Hypnosis may help some children practise calmness and confidence-building skills alongside safe, gradual support from parents or carers.
Should I force my child to face a fear?
No. Do not force a child through something unsafe or overwhelming. Choose small, supported steps and seek qualified help if fear or distress is significant.
Is hypnosis suitable for every child?
Every child is different. A parent or carer should decide whether it is suitable, and professional assessment may be needed for significant anxiety or distress.
Can my child listen to a recording at home?
Yes, with parent or carer approval, while resting safely at home or another quiet place. Never while walking, cycling, swimming, travelling near traffic or during class.
Individual results vary. Hypnotherapy is complementary support and is not a replacement for medical, psychological, psychiatric, safeguarding or emergency care.
