Shy Bladder Hypnosis | Award Winning Anxiety Hypnotherapy Brisbane | Clive Westwood

Shy bladder—also known as paruresis—can make it difficult to urinate when other people are nearby or when you are away from home. Public toilets, workplace bathrooms, travel, social events or even the thought that someone is waiting can create pressure and anxiety.

This shy bladder hypnosis is designed to support relaxation, confidence and a calmer response to toilet-related anxiety. It is not a treatment for urinary conditions and cannot guarantee a specific outcome. If difficulty urinating is new, persistent or physically painful, seek medical advice.

A calmer response to public toilet anxiety

Paruresis can feel isolating and embarrassing, but you are not alone. Many people experience increased tension, self-consciousness and worry about being judged or rushed. The more pressure you feel to urinate, the harder it may become to relax.

This guided hypnosis may help you practise feeling calmer around the anxiety and anticipation connected with using bathrooms away from home. The goal is not to force anything. It is to reduce self-judgement, ease mental pressure and build confidence gradually.

You may use this recording to support:

  • Feeling calmer before using a public toilet

  • Reducing fear of being heard, judged or rushed

  • Releasing tension linked with toilet anxiety

  • Building confidence when travelling or at work

  • Letting go of self-conscious thoughts

  • Practising a more patient response to anxiety

  • Feeling less limited by the fear of needing a bathroom

Progress does not need to be rushed. Small, manageable steps can be more helpful than forcing yourself into situations that feel overwhelming.

Do not listen while driving, cycling, operating machinery or doing anything that requires your full attention.

Medical safety comes first

Shy bladder is not the only reason someone may have trouble urinating. Hypnosis does not diagnose urinary retention, infection, prostate problems, pelvic-floor concerns or other medical conditions.

See a GP if you have new or ongoing trouble urinating, pain, blood in your urine, fever, urinary leakage or other physical symptoms. If your bladder feels full but you cannot urinate at all, seek urgent medical care. Do not deliberately hold urine for long periods or restrict fluids in an attempt to manage anxiety without medical advice.

Frequently asked questions

Can hypnosis cure shy bladder?

Hypnosis cannot guarantee a cure. It may help some people practise relaxation and respond to toilet-related anxiety with less fear and self-consciousness. Individual experiences vary.

Is difficulty urinating always caused by anxiety?

No. Urinary symptoms can have medical causes. A GP should assess new, persistent, painful or concerning symptoms before you assume anxiety is the reason.

What if I cannot urinate at all?

If your bladder feels full but you cannot urinate, seek urgent medical care. This may be acute urinary retention and needs prompt assessment.

Can I book a private session?

Yes. Private sessions are tailored to your individual goals, experiences and pace.
